THE RAPE OF EUROPA FACTS

For twelve years leading up to and including WWII, the Nazis stole and destroyed all art that they deemed "inappropriate," which included an estimated one-fifth of all the known artworks in Europe. While the Allies tried to return most of the art after the end of the war, there are families and art historians still trying to find and repair lost masterpieces, including Gustav Klimt's "Gold Portrait."
